Stellar Exploration Partners with SAB Aerospace on IOSHEX Mission EPS Development
Stellar Exploration has been selected by SAB Aerospace to develop the Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) for the innovative IOSHEX mission, focused on modular robotic spacecraft for in-orbit servicing. Our role includes designing, analyzing, and verifying the EPS, ensuring reliable power generation, storage, distribution, and conditioning for the spacecraft.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design & Analysis: Developing power generation, storage, and distribution systems, while defining performance parameters and FDIR concepts.
Detailed Design & Verification: Sizing the solar generator and battery, managing EPS requirements, and conducting a rigorous RFI campaign.
The IOSHEX mission will significantly enhance in-orbit capabilities like satellite servicing and debris removal, with Stellar Exploration’s power solutions playing a critical role in its success.

Stellar Exploration has been contracted by SAB Aerospace to develop the Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) for the IOSHEX mission, a key initiative in modular robotic spacecraft for in-orbit servicing. Stellar Exploration’s role involves the design, analysis, and verification of the EPS, ensuring reliable power generation, storage, distribution, and conditioning for the spacecraft.
Technical Overview of Stellar Exploration’s Involvement
Stellar Exploration is responsible for the B1 phase of EPS development, which includes two primary work packages:
WP1: EPS System Design and Analysis
– Design and analyze power generation, storage, and distribution systems.
– Define driving performance parameters, cost, schedule, and country of origin for components.
– Develop Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) concepts.
– Manage power budget and verify EPS system performance through power analysis.
WP2: Detailed EPS Design and Verification
– Generate power budget for Demo 1 mission and size the solar generator and battery.
– Identify power interface changes for Demo 1 and manage EPS requirements.
– Perform RFI campaign for solar generator, Power Conditioning and Distribution Unit (PCDU), battery, and harness.
